THE STORY OF
KLASSIEK OP HET AMSTELVELD
On 20 & 21 September, the picturesque Amstelveld will colour for the 12th time with musicians, young talents, orchestras and audiences listening to the most beautiful sounds the classical world has to offer under the beautiful wingnut trees.
A classical festival where the experience is just a little bit different from what you are used to seeing at a classical concert. This was the vision of artistic director Tatiana Chevtchouk as she stood on the Amstelveld, closed her eyes and she visualised a freely accessible music festival that was not just for the practised classical listener.
Her dream was to connect everyone. To offer mainly young musicians an opportunity to play on a large stage for a large audience. Together with maestros and orchestras. Tatiana also thought about the audience, because not everyone has the opportunity to attend a concert in, for instance, the Concertgebouw.
Moreover, sometimes the threshold is quite high if you don't know the ‘’world‘’ to go to a classical concert. This could be different, she thought, and Classical on the Amstelveld was born.best hoog, mocht je de ‘’wereld’’ niet kennen om naar een klassiek concert te gaan. Dit mag anders, dacht zij en Klassiek op het Amstelveld was geboren.
Together with Marcha Thiagarajah-Hendriks, business & production manager, she presented the first edition 12 years ago. Since then, the team has grown and so have the success stories. Many young talents, once often on such a big stage for the first time, are now household names. Lucie Horsch, Ramon van Engelenhoven, Aidan Mikdad, Noa Wildschut, Laetitia Gerards....all young talents who have been able to build a career as a musician not only in the Netherlands. Together with professional musicians and well-known orchestras, they have stood on the stage of Klassiek op het Amstelveld and provided the most beautiful concerts and the most exciting & surprising programmes. No year is like another and every edition has its own spirit. We are curious to see what we can experience this year and look forward to experiencing it together with you, our audience. See you in September on the Amstelveld!
The power of music lies in the magical moment when an artist becomes completely one with the music and thus manages to touch his audience and drag them into his emotions. With Klassiek op het Amstelveld, I want to give this special feeling to young artists and the audience.
Tatiana Chevtchouk
Founder and Artistic Director
Tatiana Chevtchouk is the artistic director of the open-air festival Klassiek op het Amstelveld. In addition to this important task, she works throughout the year as a talent scout for young classical talent. She is constantly looking for undiscovered young talent, both nationally and internationally. In this way, she supports these young talents to take the first steps in their musical career. She also works on important collaborations and, with Stichting KOHA and its programmes Klassiek op het Amstelveld, Open Podium & Spotlight Concours, offers a stage to these young talents.
Klassiek op het Amstelveld was founded in 2012 from Tatiana Chevtchouk's intrinsic motivation to give young classical talent a stage. Her own life story provided the inspiration.
As a young girl, she had no access to any form of culture and her life circumstances offered no opportunity to access culture both financially and intellectually. One day, she was introduced to classical music, which changed her life. Later in life, a piano teacher gave her the opportunity to develop herself musically, for which she is grateful to this day.
It has become her personal goal to give the same opportunities to other young people. Her new home in Amsterdam, with its Amstelveld location, provided the perfect open-air stage to realise her dream.

OUR SPONSORS
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all sponsors who contributed to this great edition
Yes, the festival is free/free of charge. We would like to give everyone the opportunity to attend classical concerts and/or learn about classical music and bring it closer to the public.
The festival is for all ages. On Saturday, there will be a special programme for children from 11am, with a dance workshop, a story about Mozart and a drawing competition. There will be face painting and popcorn and poffertjes for sale. In short, the festival is for everyone!
As the festival has both visitors who come especially for the music and those who want to enjoy the atmosphere with classical music in the background, we would like everyone to take this into account.
On the ‘ Program’ page, you will find all the times of the concerts and the artists performing.
Of course you may; just keep in mind not to disturb other visitors.
We strongly advise against coming to the festival by car. The reason is that there is little parking space and it is also very pricey. Better come by public transport (Metro: NoordZuidlijn stop Vijzelgracht or Tram 4: stop Prinsengracht) or by bike.
The square is barrier-free and accessible to all. A warning is in order: due to the raised roots of the trees around the square, the ground is not level. So be careful.
There are 600 chairs in front of the stage for visitors who want to listen to the music quietly. At the edges of the square are picnic tables and bar tables for the more ‘agile’ visitors.
Lost something? Report to someone from Team KOHA, recognisable by the black shirts. There is an information table near the catering area where found objects are taken to.
